scumbag hippie leftard mfr's...

I went this morning to do some more work on my daughter's betrothed's sound studio. After I remeasured for the umpity-twelfth time, I went to get some lumber at the big orange box in town and passed through down town Highland Park, NJ, the next town North from Rutger's home, New Brunswick. Lining the sidewalk between the two towns were a crowd of anti-war protesters, with signs, banners and even one of the worst looking giant puppet heads I've ever seen. Not being worn by anyone, mind you, it was lying on it's side in the gutter. I guess it was even too embarrassing for even one of the over the hill hippies to wear...
Anyway, I went past them into New Brunswick, picked up my lumber and, while waiting at the checkout, grabbed a big piece of white paper that was just sitting there, needing to be used for something interesting. So, I asked the girl a the checkout if I could have it. She said, "Si"... typical. I loaded the lumber into the truck and grabbed one of my big black markers from my toolbox and wrote in nice, easy to read block letters on the paper "God Bless Pres. Bush", and headed back into town. By now the traffic was crazy and everyone was slowing down to honk and wave and flash peace signs at the hippies, who were beaming and smiling and waving their "End The War Now" and "Impeach Bush" banners. Geez, do you think they could put a little imagination into it by now? Anyway, as I crawled up to the in the line of cars, I started flashing my lights and blowing my horn and when they all turned to look at me, I held up my little home made sign. Ha. I was immediately assaulted with "Fuck you, asshole!", "Fuck George Bush!", middle fingers waved in my general direction and had my truck spit at. All I did was smile back and hold up my sign. A young Jewish couple, pushing a baby in a stroller, was passing in front of all this and saw my sign and the guy gave me a smile and a thumbs-up. Made my day. Just goes to show you how peace loving the dirty hippie scumbags are and how some really appreciate what President Bush has done to keep us and our allies in the Middle East safe.
Got another wall framed and ready to sheet rock, by the way. I'll get more done on Monday.
Have a swell evening, my fellow wanderers...

Saturday's Goth Girl...

This is not a happy post. This is Sophie Lancaster, who was beaten to death by a band of drunken teenagers in England, just because she was a goth. Her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, was also attacked and barely survived the incident. The scum who took the life of this young woman were justly sentenced to life terms in prison, although that really means nothing to her family, her boyfriend and all who knew and loved her for being "different". I'm sure you're in a better place, Sophie, where being who you need to be makes no difference at all.

an open letter to John McCain...

Mr. McCain,
Thank you. Because I have a great love for my country, the greatest country of all, The United States Of America, I was going to cast my vote for you on November 4th, but now I will enter that greatest sanctuary of American freedom, the voting booth, with a renewed faith and confidence that the ideals, beliefs and responsibilities of free men (and women) everywhere, will be represented by you and Sarah Palin, I feel that there is, indeed, a very bright light that will shine for all that is true and right and just. I have a great respect for you. I believe that you have a true interest and direction that is best for this great country and now I know that you, too, believe that to be your course. I have been very afraid of America falling into the hands of those who have suspect intentions. And, I must admit, that some of your policies have had me a bit wary, but you have risen above your personal agenda, and have put what is best for the people of this great nation first and fore most and, for that, I thank you. I have been planning to and will continue to champion you as the next President of the United States, and I will sleep tonight with a new found rest, thanks to your astute choice as a running mate. I do not mean to belittle your experience and love of country, but now I know, for sure in my heart, that you have the very best interest of true Americans in mind.
Thank you.
Your most humble supporter,
Gregor

a pleasant surprise...

our two youngest nieces have been visiting this week, as they usually do toward the end of the summer when Mrs. SOG is done with summer school. She usually takes them to someplace special while they're here, last year they went to Wild West City. This year she got tickets at the old Tweeter Center, now the Susquehanna Bank Center, on the waterfront in Camden, NJ, to see The Jonas Brothers... She had purchased four tickets with the idea that our youngest daughter, Cait, would go with them to help keep thing sane, but she moved to Florida to begin her tattoo apprenticeship and couldn't get back for the show. Since the Mrs. couldn't find anyone else to go, I stepped, grudgingly, up to the plate and volunteered my services. For the past few weeks I was dreading the experience, however, I have to say that it really was one of the better shows I've seen in a few years. The two opening acts left a bit to be desired, especially a young lady named Demi Lovato who, whilst quite energetic, obviously must give most of the credit for her fame to her sound guy in the studio, real nails on the chalkboard stuff there. Not to mention she seemed to run out of steam halfway through her set. The first act was a duo of young ladies from Australia who go by the name The Veronicas. Accents to kill for, cute as anything and all long legs and such, but definitely not the second coming of Tatu... The Jonas Brothers, however put on one slick production, with all the requisite pyrotechnics, light shows, laser shows, playing to the hearts of the 25,000 screaming and crying pre-pubescent girls in attendance, who were having a really good time, I have to say, singing along to all the songs, hands in the air, swaying back and forth, waving their glow sticks on cue from the band. Musically, well, let's face it, it's formulaic, aimed at the swirling emotions of their fans, but they are really accomplished performers and musicians and rocked on solid for almost two full hours. I have to say, I had a really good time. I doubt they'll make it to my iPod, but it was good, clean fun of the concert kind, which is hard to come by these days. Even all the parents who at the beginning of the night had some pretty dour looks on their faces, ended up dancing and clapping along with everyone else. It was nice to be in the middle of a communal good time. Bast knows, I might even go see them again if the opportunity presents itself, but, knowing how that part of the music industry works, they'll be last weeks news by then, replaced by some new and fresh and interesting heart throbs, which will be a shame. They deserve to go far.
Never a dull moment in my quest for musical experiences - last week, King Crimson. This week, The Jonas Brothers. Next week, who knows.

Sunday project...

Since we're having company this week, which means that I had to drag most of the furniture back into the living room, I couldn't do any work on it... so I decided to take care of the area where we keep our garbage cans. It's hidden around a back corner of Stately Sad Old Goth Manor, where no one usually treads, except for the poor soul who's designated job it is to manage said garbage (me), but it's always been an eyesore and I was itchy to play with power tools anyway, so...

This is the mess I started with...

I have a mess of treated 4 x 4's left over from the decking around the long-gone pool, so I used some of them for framing and cut lap joints and dadoes so they'd for a good, stout base for the decking...

After I made all the cuts, I treated them with some wood preservative and while that was drying, made off to the lumber place for some cheap treated decking...

I dug out and leveled the area, added some blue stone and soil and tamped it down, then set the base on some bricks to keep is just up off the ground, leveled it once more, then started putting the decking down, using coated decking screws and 20 penny nails for spacers...

and, now a nice looking place to store the garbage cans...

Yeah, I know, the house needs to be painted. I also have to replace the two shingles that mysteriously fell apart during the construction process...
And here's my reward for a job well done...

8/22/1923...

I don't talk much about my parents around here, they've both been gone for a long time. If my father was still around, today would be his eighty-fifth birthday. He was a quiet and complex guy. Had a bad time in WWII. His sense of humor was very, very dry. And sometimes dark. Now you know where I get mine. He had the greenest thumb of anyone I've known. He could coax stuff to grow and flourish that professional gardeners would fail at. He was an artist, he made a living as a young man painting high end porcelains for a factory in Newark, NJ, before WWII. He could work wood, barbecue anything and pitch horseshoes like a son of a bitch. A toss that wasn't a ringer was an event. He was a home movie maker, parade lover, coffee drinker, incorrigible tinkerer and chain smoked Chesterfield Kings that he always lit with an ancient Zippo lighter. He loved a good fire. He hated wasps. He probably would have been a great blogger. Happy Birthday, Jack, and thanks.

I are not as dumb...

as I look. Or sometimes sound. In 2006 I wrote this post about the potential Russian move into Georgia as part of their push to recapture that country and make an advance to the South. Obviously I didn't make this stuff up, it was available for the taking from credible sources. Too bad NATO didn't read the same stuff. And it's too bad that America seems to be so self-absorbed in the Obama/McCain, black/white, dem/rino, he-said/she-said political bullshit to take note of what's really going on over there. I smell set up... I've never trusted Obama, nor the rest of the anti-American left for one damned second. I've always been convinced that Obama is but a convenient front for dark and subversive powers behind the scenes and that he's nothing but a distraction being played by the internal forces that seek to bring this country to it's knees. America is being set up for a fatal fall. I'm beginning to be less worried by terror attacks by the sixth century scum in the near future, than being sucked into a land war in Europe. Or worse yet, a limited nuclear exchange in Europe that will escalate into a full scale tit for tat between the US and Russia. If Europe boils over in the next two to five years, is the stuttering negro fool going to have it in him to do anything about it? Of course not, because the decision will not be his, but that of the puppet-master liberals who are pulling his strings. What about McCain? He might personally have the balls to stand up to Putin and company before things get weird, but he's going to be hamstrung by the commies on Capitol Hill. And, seriously, who in Europe is going to stand against Russia if they decide to venture towards the West? Germany? France? Islam over-run England? Feh. I think we need to stop worrying about that pompous asshole Dinnerjacket in Iran and start moving resources into central Europe, Italy and Poland. And, while we're at it, we need to move some resources to the border with Mexico post haste. Those recent "accidental" incursions by the Mexican Army are a warning sign. And a few dozen mid range nukes moved into Gitmo wouldn't hurt, either, especially if they're aimed at Chavez...
Your thoughts?

the silent class...

The Limousine Left has made itself heard, time and again, on the subject of the "American invasion of the sovereign state of Iraq". Where is there outrage over this?
A communist/socialist invasion of a democracy stirs very little, if any, outrage among the mouth breathers of the left. I guess they're just so in awe of the "...leader that God has blessed us with at this time, ", that they can't see anything else. Blinded by hate, or blinded by glory is still being blind. So is being blind by choice.

I am so f'n tired...

and sore, and stiff... I helped a friend's daughter move into her new apartment on Saturday. Well, actually, I helped by offering my truck to carry stuff and carried some stuff up into the place, it's a good thing there were three hearty young guys helping, one of whom is an Iraq vet, so they did the grunt work. Then on Sunday, starting at eight in the morning, I started framing out the walls for the vocal room of my daughter's future husband's new recording studio. I managed to get the wall up that separates the room from the bigger band room. It has a thirty six inch solid wood door and a thirty by thirty six inch window. I got it framed and sheet rocked yesterday, by the time I got done it was a twelve hour day. Plus an hour ride home. When I got up this morning, the only thing that didn't hurt was my dick, which has been numb for years... I spent the day hobbling around the office, slouching at my desk, counting the hours until I could get home and medicate myself with the all healing Samuel Adams Summer Ale. Also summoned up the strength to wolf down some teriyaki and pepper marinated steak with roasted squash. And, I'll have you know, it's killing me to type this. Hear me well - getting old sucks. Twenty years ago, I'd have had the whole studio done in one day. I still have two more walls to go. I'm on the cusp of fifty five, and, while that's really not old, all things are relative, the only reference point I have is myself and what I used to be ten years ago, twenty years ago, thirty years ago. I feel old. I can't work as fast as I used to, I can't think as fast as I used to. It's frustrating and sometimes makes me feel like I'm spinning my wheels. One of these days I'm going to have to succumb to it and slow it down a bit.
On the remodeling front, I'm starting to work on filling the spaces between the beams in the living room ceiling with sheet rock, I'll have some before and after pictures soon. Then it's one final sanding of the spackling and it's time to paint. Then trim. Then put the new flooring in. Then build the mantle and bookcase. I'm targeting having it all done and pretty before Thanksgiving. I hope I make it.
Well, I'm off to the Land of Nod. Have a wonderful evening, my fellow wanderers... and to my friends in Florida, I hope you are safe and sound. Fare thee well.

Now you can tell your grandkids...

that you were there the day that free speech went four-up in America...
Random House publishing has killed a romanticized book about the prophet Mo's favorite wife, six year old Aisha, for fear it would offend muzzies. Actually, not for fear of offending muzzies, but fear of muzzies... big fucking difference from where I stand. I know a lot of people who can be offended by many things, but they don't resort to violence like the followers of the so called religion of peace.
You can read about this here, here and here...
Score another victory for the 6th century scum that has come to destroy our way of life. We are going to die, as a people and a nation, because we will not stand against this plague of cock sucking dogs from hell, but bend over backwards to make sure we don't hurt their feelings.

Tyson Foods update...

I received a reply from Tyson Foods regarding the Labor Day issue...

"Contrary to recent reports, Labor Day has not been done away with at
the Tyson plant in Shelbyville, TN. Recent RWDSU(Retail, Wholesale &
Department Store Union) contract negotiations resulted in a different
holiday for workers covered by the contract, for which the union
bargained. Employees not covered by the contract will still have Labor
Day as a paid holiday. The union asked for and received eid al-fitr in
place of Labor Day as a paid holiday. Employees receive eight paid
holidays per year, which is the same number provided in the old
contract. The contract does not provide for an additional holiday."

As far as I'm concerned, it's still guilt by association. You might want to voice your displeasure to the RWDSU as well, as will I...

nothings ever easy...

I went out today and bought forty 2x4s, with the intention of ripping them into 2x2 furring strips so I could start on the living room ceiling. I pulled out the ripping blade for my table saw and decided that it had been sharpened at least two times too many, so I went back out to get a new one. They don't make them to fit my table saw anymore. It has an 8" blade. All the new table saws have either 10" or 12" blades. I can use a circular saw blade that's 7 1/4" in diameter, I guess, but all the blades have a knockout in the arbor, and I'm leery of it deciding to come apart if I hit a good knot or if it binds up a bit. Anyone have any experience with using a circular saw blade in a table saw?
So, since I couldn't do that, I decided to play lumberjack. I took down a fifteen foot tall Catawba tree, a twelve foot red cedar and a horribly overgrown lilac bush. Not a lot of fun, but I needed to eliminate some of the shade over my new hedging plants. I have two thirty foot poplars and an equally tall Catawba that still need to come down, but I'm calling in an arborist to take care of those. They're too big and too close to The Manor for amateur mistakes. I found a guy that will take them down for less than a thousand, which is pretty cheap and well worth the price just to make sure I don't dent the house.
Some nice steaks, marinated in soy and cracked pepper, for dinner tonight, along with some fresh corn from the farmer down the road, and some homemade potato salad. I think I'll enjoy some Peroni with it.
It promises to be a wonderful evening, perhaps an after dinner fire is in order.
Have a good one, my fellow wanderers. Fare thee well.

Saturday's Goth Girl...

another great image by Alan Clement...
Like a lot of the photos I've seen of our goth friends from the other side of the pond, she looks like she's enjoying the moment in a big way. The goth girls I've encountered on this side of the waters seem to take it all a bit too seriously, or at least put that front on. Goth's a lot about having fun with it, not playing the old "woe is me" card all the time, or being stuck up about it. It's not about being "gother than thou". The goths in England seem to be pretty merry when out and about. I like that...

Hope you're having a swell Saturday.

OW..!!!

I decided to take the afternoon off today and do something therapeutic, like mow the grounds around The Manor and while I was taking a break, one of these decided to introduce itself to the back of my neck...

twice...

After smashing it to jelly, uttering here to fore unheard oaths and performing a colorful interpretation of a surely forgotten Eastern European folk dance, I treated it with a few ice cubes and will further medicate myself against horrible infection later on by consuming a Herculean quantity of stout. I think I will shall survive.
In other news, I'm still in a bit of a funk, but stop by tomorrow for a new Saturday's Goth Girl and maybe some pithy commentary, too. Or not.
