Still life with cat...

Whilst I was killing myself reroofing the front porch this past Sunday in ninety plus temperatures, Tiger The Cat® was taking advantage of the weather situation by catching some rays in her favorite chair in the reading nook off the kitchen...

I wish I could just turn off the world like that for a while...

man, I'm beat...

I got up early and sharpened the lawn mower blade and re-gapped the spark plug, then dug out the last of the day lilies and threw them and the recycling stuff in the back of the truck and hit the road, stopping to drop off the recycling, get the mail and drop the day lilies off at Schloss Bingley..., then headed home with intentions of getting the grounds mowed, then tackling the maple tree that split in half during the last wind storm, but once I got into chasing the lawn mower around, I ended up not only giving the grounds proper a good haircut, but ventured out into the back forty and mowed all that as well. I think except for the cultivated areas and the bog garden, I'm going to keep it well manicured this season, since you can see straight through the property into the woods since the old honeysuckle hedges came down. It will be another few years before the Thuja are big enough to afford any real privacy, so I think I'll have to keep it from looking so wild out back. I never got anywhere near the maple tree, though. In the midst of mowing, I went into the shed to get my wheelbarrow out of winter storage and both tires were flat, so that prompted a trip to the local gas station with the wheels to refill them and I got into a conversation with the fellow who owns the place for a while, so that by the time I got back to mowing and finished up, it was well into the late afternoon and I was dragging. One thing about mowing lawns, though, is that it gives me time to think and more than likely, hold full-fledged conversations with myself about any and everything. Plus, the exercise stimulates my creativity... I came up with a sure fire way to finally shut up that babbling, insipid left-wing mutt, Janeane Garofalo...

Should work, you think?

You know, sitting here I'm realizing that I got sunburned today, my face is really, really hot and my skin feels really, really tight and my arms are starting to turn a light red... it was in the mid-eighties here in the glorious Garden State today, and tomorrow promises to be even warmer... just perfect weather to re-roof my front porch... ugh.
Well, I'm going to kick back, have one of Mrs. SOG's wonderful grilled cheeseburgers and enjoy a new wine I was presented with today by The Bingley's and watch some basketball. Maybe be back later, maybe not. It's going to be a nice warm night, perfect for a long walk in the woods with lantern and pipe.
Later.

sometimes it takes so little...

in a scant, few words, this week sucked. even more so than the past two weeks. while trying to wrap things up in my current office, before i'm shuffled off to my glass cube at the client's place, people have been coming in and out, taking office furniture, the stacks of cubicle walls, even the fucking pictures off the walls... it's like being the ghost of someones dead relative, sitting in a dark corner, while those living yet come and take their bounty... it is not pleasant.
however, whilst surfing the web at lunch time, which, conceptually is strange in itself, for no one is there to care what i do or when i do it, but i still take my lunch at the same time, sit at my same desk, surf the same blogs and news sites, sitting in a darkened building that no more resounds with the din of my fellow workers, it is now but a well of echoes, even the sound of my typing returns in it's own, faint, mocking way... sorry, i'm wandering... whilst searching out the living amongst the ones and zeros, i stumbled across this little treasure, much by accident, almost in the same way The One Ring was found... those of you who know me well will know just how much this turns me on, as i identify with Tolkien's characters more than i identify with most of the people i know in this supposed "real" world, which is, really, quite sad i imagine, but i'm past the age of caring and my life in years late has been a very solitary one, much like any of Tolkien's well crafted folk who, although they are surrounded by many, are truly apart... and alone. i'm not complaining, nor am i pathetic or sad, as you might think, it's just who i am. i prefer to sit on the edge of life. bah, whatever...
enjoy the trailer. enjoy your evening. night has fallen, it's time to wander...

Hi...

have decided to temper my blogging a bit (and stop blogging with my temper...) and have gone into reading mode. Nothing settles the soul like a good book, a cup of herbal tea and a cat curled up in your lap while you read... Currently it is "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, which is a bit of a break from the usual gardening, woodworking and non-fiction stuff I usually read. It's helping, believe me. I've been spinning out of control with angst and worry and woe and all that supposedly good gothy stuff, but it's making me a wreck. Some solid outside working on the grounds, digging in the dirt and enjoying the spring weather is going a long way to evening me out, too. I need to do some serious karmic repair and put the blinders on for a while. So, until I finish this particular book, which should be by this weekend, I'll just be popping in and out if I have something really worth saying, otherwise, well, we'll see. Be well.

It's a beautiful spring Sunday...

here in the land of milk and honey, otherwise known as The Garden State... After I finish my current cup of coffee, I'm going to be spending my day working in the yard and gardens, but before I do, I figured I'd offer up a little Public Service Announcement...
Now that THIS has passed both Houses and will, no doubt, be signed into law by King Uppity The First, I suggest that you prepare for what comes by reading THIS... It could come in handy, you know...
just sayin'...
Have a wonderful day, my fellow wanderers...
