hurricane update...

we decided to play safe, rather than sorry and headed for higher ground... our friends in the next town graciously put us up for the night...spent most of the night in their garage with our five cats... tornado blew through less than a hundred feet from where we were hunkered down, twisted trees until they shattered... our town was completely closed due to flooding... when I finally got back home on Sunday afternoon, Stately Sad Old Goth Manor was still standing, only a few huge branches down, but we took on some water in the kitchen, seven inches worth, contending with the cleanup and drying out now... had a huge cherry tree blow down Sunday afternoon while I was standing outside during the wind gusts... our neighbor closer to the stream took it hard, looks to have had at least several feet of water in his house... still have to clean up the property, looks like a world war one battlefield... we're safe and sound, house is sound, although damp and stinky... we were going to remodel the kitchen next year, anyway...
more details over the weekend.

I'm gratified that the people & cats are safe - damage to home & land, while heartbreaking, is only "stuff" ... and stuff can be fixed/replaced.

thanks, Rev. I reconciled myself to the fact that damage of some sort was going to happen, I'm thankful it was only minor compared to what some folks around here suffered. we wanted to clean out the utility rooms anyway, Irene just got us off our butts to do it!
