a blessed Samhain...

a happy new year and a happy Hallowe'en to one and all...
Long has it been since I tarried here. I've been... detained, as our friend Gandalf has said, I believe. Many the distraction has presented itself between my writing here and my life at large, but, I'm working at changing that. As much as I love things like Facebook and Twitter and such, this is my rootstock. This is where I've made my way for so long and jotting off a note here and there does not fulfill the need this blog fills to overflowing, so I'm going to take more time here and less in the "sound bite" realms. You've been warned.
Enjoy this wonderful night. I am. I'll be back very, very soon...
Gregor

Hey, it's Friday Night! Time to get dressed to the nines, hit a goth club, stake a claim on a ratty old sofa, sip on a watery Scotch on the rocks and watch all the baby bats bopping around to the thump, thump, thump of some dark wave and electro-goth techno... or finish mowing the f'n lawn in the dark... I gotta get a life.

It's Prog Rock Saturday Night..!

You're going to be hearing a few of my favorite pieces from Yes over the next few weeks. My youngest daughter and I are going to see them in June, with special guest Peter Frampton!
Here's my second favorite Yes song, recorded live in 2003 at Montreaux, "And You And I". I have to admit, I can't listen to this without getting a leaky face, for reasons I'd rather not get into, but suffice it to say that it means a lot to me...
I hope you enjoy it.

I'm waiting for this to come in the mail...

It's a cobalt glass and pewter aroma therapy pendant that I ordered from Lady Hawk's Treasures... It's intended purpose is to hold aromatic oils, but it's going to be holding all of Tiger The CatsĀ® fur that I spent two hours picking out of my ratty old sweater that she always slept on. I'm going to wear it constantly, so she's not only in my heart, but next to it all the time, too. Yeah, I know, you're thinking that I've really gone over the edge, but not really. She was as close to me as anyone else in my life that I cherish, maybe even a bit closer, and I need to do this. We had a very special bond, something that I can't explain, or would want to, if I could. It will bring me some peace.

In other news, it's supposed to snow like a bitch starting tomorrow afternoon. I'm prepared; Snow shovel and push broom are in the laundry room; My surf fishing waders are at the ready; I'm been taking extra potassium tablets to help ward off the leg cramps from shoveling... I stopped at the grocery store on the way home tonight and bought a bunch of staple items and some fun food for the Super Bowl on Sunday, a six pack of Anchor Steam beer and a six pack of Long Trail Oatmeal Stout. And an extra pack of smokes. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

So, on that note, I'm going to go finish that bottle of wine I opened last night, settle in and read for an hour or two, then off to the land of Nod.
All I ask, my fellow wanderers, is to bear with me while I get over this Tiger thing... I promise not to be a drag about it.
Have a wonderful evening. Fare thee well...

well, I ran out of music before I ran out of booze last night. We had a little snow, too, last night, just a coating, but it made everything look pretty. After it cleared out, around midnight, the just past full moon made it all the more beautiful. I needed some enforced beauty, the past few days have not been very good. I'm waking up every ten minutes during the night, thinking that Tiger the cat is there, curled up next to me. This is damned hard. Without thinking, I turned down the pet food aisle in the grocery store this morning and it was so strange, like I was in some foreign land, nothing made any sense and I just stood there, wondering what I was doing there. I'm sorry about keeping on about this, but Tiger was very special to me... I'm very lost right now. It's going to be a long while before I find any closure in this. There was a bond there that transcended the usual with a pet, which she really was not. It's very hard to let go...
In other news, I'm going to spend the next few weeks investigating some places where I can publish books on demand. I'm going to sit down, go through the piles of stories and poetry I've written over the past thirty years or so years, and put something together. I don't know what direction it's going to take, I don't know what era of my writings it will be gleaned from, but it will be interesting, to me at least, to re-read all that stuff and see what I come up with. I went through some stages in my writings over the years, influenced by many other writers, like Richard Brautigan, Dylan Thomas, Burroughs, Frost and others, and I developed a style that is comfortable and easy, which I guess, on one hand, is a good thing, but on the other, it removes some of the edge. I guess I'll find out when it hits the New York Times Top Ten list, huh?
I am planning on including my photography, so you'll have some pictures to look at while reading it, if you so deign. I was thinking of doing the printing and binding myself, I still may, depending on the cost of the short run printing. Something to think about. Idle hands and all that...
Well, I have to go stick the meat thermometer in the meatloaf that's been going in the oven, and start steaming the veggies and put together a salad for dinner. I have some fresh baked onion rolls to go with it, and some wonderful, ripe and very moldy blue cheese.
Have a wonderful evening, my fellow wanderers. Fare thee well.

I've decided to join in Diane's Musical Monday meme... any excuse to expose the world to my tastes...
October Project is perfect for my rainy, windy Monday afternoon.

There is something in Mary Fahl's voice the just goes right through me...
Enjoy.

on a log. That's me tonight. I'm not doing anything of any constructive nature. I'm going to finish off that six pack of Post Road Pumpkin Ale I bought last weekend, have a well done cheeseburger, hot off the grill, sit my ass in Dame Recliner and stare at what ever Mrs. SOG deems watchable on the idiot box. I'll pick up on the electrical work I'm doing tomorrow night after work and finish it up over the weekend. Then probably put the new light in the room under the stairs, sheet rock the ceiling and walls and put the new flooring in. But not tonight. Not tonight. I'd love to be able to spout something witty, or deep, or rail on about that effete moron in the White House that some people call the President, but there's nothing there. Frankly, I'm about sick of it all, anyway. I usually start to perk up a bit this time of year, it used to mean something special to me, but not these days, for some reason. I think I'm suffering from over exposure to what passes for humanity. I think I need to go someplace dark and quiet and secret for a while and sort myself out. But right now I'm going to go eat that cheeseburger and have another ale.

was up too late last night, up too early today and really did nothing all day but start listing stuff for sale on CraigsList. We have too much stuff... this place is starting to look like Collyer's Mansion. And, in a little while, I'm going out to hang with a friend for a while, so here's some music for a rainy night and my rainy soul...

(don't be put off by the Beach Boys tune in the middle of it all, if you're familiar with it, you know it fits right in. if you're not familiar with it, please give it your ear...).

Enjoy...
