life as lizard...

I will find a rock to hide under for the duration one of these days, I guarantee... and I'll only come out to take the sun and bite the shit out of people who piss me off. And shed, occasionally. And flick my tongue.

It's all MADNESS..!!!

I'm exhausted... we worked the Monster Mania convention last weekend, then went right into last minute prep for our first big roller derby fundraising event of the year, trivia night at a bar in Philly. It actually went well, we made a lot of new fans and had a lot of new girls sign up.
Drop on over the the roller blog for details, if you're so inclined.
Despite my growing mistrust of the Philly media, we're going to try working with it again - my partner, Ken, some of our skaters and I will be guests on Dave Warren's "Acres of Diamonds" radio talk show this Saturday, May 28th at 8:00PM, 1340AM-WHAT, to help spread the word about bringing REAL roller derby back to Philly.
If you can't tune in on the radio, you can listen on line at www.thebigtalker.net.
Other than that, looking forward to a semi-relaxing Memorial Day weekend with family and friends - please DON'T FORGET why it's called Memorial Day! Take a minute to give thanks to the brave men and women who have given their all to keep this country the kind of place where you can have a blog, say what's on your mind and have a voice in government, no matter how little that voice may seem sometimes. Fly your flags and hang your buntings this weekend... maybe if you bump into someone in uniform over the weekend, remember to say "thanks"... it goes a long way.
Be well. Be careful.

oh, my cousins...

I am three sheets to the wind on a Tuesday night, having fallen prey to the siren call of the vodka martini... oh, cruel mistress, once again hast thou swayed me...
I think breakfast tomorrow will be tylenol and coffee... a perfect way to start a Wednesday.

Ok...

I'm starting to get a bad taste in my mouth for the Philadelphia media.
We're going to have to take things into our own hands and do our own media presentations. As a matter of fact, we're supposed to meet with the producer of Comcast SportsNet soon, who promises to do a production highlighting just our roller derby league. That would be a wonderful thing, as the media in Philly seems less interested in our efforts to revive the closest thing to real roller derby than what the other bunch of girls in town are trying to do. I've seen them skate. Our girls could go out there and kick their asses for them good right now. Very frustrating that they seem to get the better part of the attention. Oh, well, enough roller derby venting.
I'm going to go drink some coffee and get wired up so I can blog into the night.

Roller Derby Madness..!

As most of you know, I am co-owner of a women's roller derby league, the Penn Jersey She Devils.. If you live in the NJ / Philadelphia area and you can suck in the Philly NBC affiliate, WCAU10 on your cable or dish network, you can see a segment about the return of roller derby to Philly with some great footage of our league, our coaches, my partner Ken and your's truly, ME!, your Humble Old Goth...
It will air at 11:00 PM tonight, Thursday, 5/12.
If you can't see it on the air, the WCAU10 web page usually has a wrap up article of the previous night's segments, so you might be able to check it out there on Friday morning!
So, that's what I've been up to lately, instead of updating my blog. It will only be getting worse, folks, so bear with me!
Later.

It is May Day...

The Beltane... The Day of Fire. Robin Goodfellow, the Green Man, holds sway today over we who celebrate the old ways. On this day is the turning of Winter into Spring, when earth is tilled and seeds are sown. The tune is turned and the dance is done, with ringing of bells and banging of sticks to awaken the sleeping world. The ale cup is passed from one to the other, and all gather about the bonfire and we are as one with each other and with the world...
How far man has strayed from the simple path. The lust for material things and loss of respect for life, all life, has poisoned the mind and killed the soul, and the chain that binds all to the Mother is broken. Man has denied his place in this simple universe and has sought to elevate himself in dominion of all natural things, forgetting his past and unable to see his future, save that which he denies shall be, for man is only interested in the now. His ignorance and his want have clouded his eyes and he has traded the simple joy of living with the Mother for trinkets and toys, glittering things that dazzle the eye and are hoarded away, lest other men should covet them. True beauty and true worth have fallen by the wayside and all has been taken for gain, to the ruin of all things...
Faint, these days, is the music that issues from the pipes of Pan... it can barely be heard over the senseless din of man...
Why has it come to this?
